FAMILY SYSTEM

What is the Family System?

TASA Families are tight-knit smaller groups of TASA members (about 10-20) with fam heads! UCLA is HUGE and TASA is still a BIG organization—so the family system is a great way to create an even smaller community for yourself! Joining a family is amazing for creating a supportive network of friends that share the same cultural interests and social experiences as you. Families hang out regularly outside of our general TASA events—our fam heads like to go on karaoke trips, Sawtelle and K-town runs, dorm dinners, beach trips, and more!

Join a family to meet people of different genders, years, majors with different hobbies, experiences, and more! Fam application forms are open at the beginning of each quarter~

Applications to join a fam: Click here for the application.

If you have any questions, please contact our membership chair, Derek Wu, at derekmwu@gmail.com

Our fam heads are all veteran TASA members and excited to create a fam! There are a total of 15 fam heads and seven families this year—read more about our 2022-2023 fam heads below...

I really like going out with friends and hanging, talking, and going on food trips to Sawtelle or Ktown. I'm also a really active person and I like gymming, playing volleyball and basketball, and walking the campus at night (it's straight vibe yall should try it). My music taste is really basic and my fav two artists rn are keshi and porter robinson. I also listen to lots of jpop and cpop, and I'd say my favorite genre is rnb/pop. My experience with TASA has been nothing but fun. I've been involved in TASA since my first year and I've really enjoyed my time here. I've met some of my closest friends through TASA fams and created lots of fun memories with the people here. I hope that my fam can create the same environment for you to find a group of close friends and make lots of fun college experiences. This year kat and I have made a fun list of stuff that we will be doing with you guys! Going to beaches, shopping at Santa Monica and Westfield, hiking, ktown food trip, kickbacks, and anything that's fun! See you guys at Meet the Fam Heads!

TASA and its fam system have truly given me a lot, so this year me and lindsey are going to raise the #1 family 😮‍💨 we're both happy/friendly people who want to eat good food and go on fun outings w you guys (we have a few things in mind), but we also just want to chill and talk! im excited to meet you all and hope we can be friends :)

Iris, Chloe, and Helen

Iris: Hello! I am super excited to meet you and hang out together this year! :-) We're hoping to do lots of boba/food get togethers, potlucks, picnics, baking/cooking day, game nights, watch parties, and any other outings you can think of! Also hoping to do some holiday themed things, such as a halloween party or secret santa/white elephant. I joined TASA to find a community and learn more about my culture, so I hope I can provide that for all of you too!

Chloe: hihi i’m chloe, an incoming 2nd year and one of the event chairs for tasa this year! I’m originally from kaohsiung, taiwan, but moved to china when I was really young. i have a 11 year old shiba-inu back home whos lowkey overweight (ask me for photos hehe). i like playing basketball and volleyball, baking, really bad pickup lines, playing poker + mahjong, as well as watching kdramas + dating shows + horror movies (movie/tv show marathon for fam event? :O). one fun fact about myself is that i literally get lost everywhere so pls do not listen to me when i want to lead the way lol. helen, iris, and I actually met through the fam system last year so we are all super excited to be leading a fam of our own this year <3 we have many fam events planned like baking, jackbox/board game nights, or literally just trying out new restaurants and talking~we can’t wait to meet you guys!

Helen: I joined TASA last year as a freshman, hoping to meet people and get exposure to Taiwanese culture that I didn't get while growing up. I was in Morgan and Justine's fam and had a lot of fun making friends with people, two of who are now co-fam heads with me (Chloe & Iris :). Overall TASA was an awesome experience and I'm excited for this year! Our fam is hoping to do a lot of wholesome events like potluck picnics at Janss/Tongva steps, going out for boba and family dinners, maybe some kickbacks, study sessions, and we're always open to other suggestions too. Some fun facts about me are: I have two black belts, I love to sing and play piano, and I'm from the Bay Area!

Audrey & Ray

Audrey: Hi! My name is Audrey and I am a 3rd year Global Studies major but graduating this year. I'm originally from DC but I decided to attend UCLA because I'm sick of the East Coast and wanted to explore SoCal. I joined TASA because I wanted to meet more Taiwanese people around my age and practice my Chinese (although that hasn't really happened). I love eating so hopefully we'll go on lots of food adventures, like attending night markets. I also love going to concerts and watching movies so I plan to do something related to that, but I'm also open to any suggestions! Some fun facts about me are that I love traveling (was in Singapore for a month this summer) and I like playing beach volleyball at sunset rec.

Ray: Hi everyone! I'm Ray, a senior here studying comp sci. I'm originated from Taiwan but has been in SoCal (San Gabriel Valley -> Riverside -> back to San Gabriel Valley) since 2010. I'll definitely climbing and skiing (got Ikon Pass), and I'll love to explore LA as well for awesome food. hmu if you need dental care HAHA (my parents have a dental office in Temple City ^^)

Allen & Paul

Allen: Hello! I'm Allen, a fourth year Economics and Public Affairs double major hoping to work in the public sector! I like to go hiking, camping, and backpacking on the weekends. I am part of UCLA's Taekwondo club and I practice on weekdays. I enjoy playing video games, though I haven't had as much time to play lately. I like to think of myself as an adventurous person, always trying to seek a story to tell. At the same time, I also like to spend time just chilling and relaxing between these adventures to reflect.

If you can't read Chiense, free to use Google translate. The translation should be accurate.

I have been with TASA since my first year here where I had a lot of fun at kickbacks and dorm dinners. I hope to bring a similar energy back as a fam head! I plan to have a small family event every week and a major event every quarter! Here are some ideas for my events: study sessions, dorm dinners (if Gene Block is merciful and opens the UCLA dorms), picnics, boba runs, game nights (smash ultimate, among us, board games, and/or basketball), kickbacks, hikes, and going to Getty or Griffith. Also, quarterly events like camping, retreats at big bear for skiing, and weekend trips to Las Vegas or San Diego!

Let me know if you have other ideas for weekly or quarterly events because I'm always open to suggestions! Dm me on instagram @allensu766. Whether you're someone who just likes to chill and study or someone who likes to answer the call for adventure, I think my family will be right for you :)

Paul: Hey guys! I'm really excited to be a fam head this year. Me and allen have a lot of fun things planned!
